A VIEW FROM THE DRAWING ROOM'S WINDOW

i darted my eyes across the empty room
i did not see any signs of impending doom
my focus shifted towards the window
i prayed to Lord - don't show me sorrow

i pushed the curtains aside for a better view
only to set eyes on a couple i once knew
they looked at each other hard - no words were spoken
i hoped none of them were heartbroken

their eyes assured me of their current predicament
their stillness emitted their long lost laments
one knelt down to pray while the other looked away
their hearts refused to go astray

i turned away as the view was too painful
i wanted to help but i was forever doubtful
i hoped they would finally clear the air
before i retreated to my armchair
